4th Century AD – Glass – 16.5×7.5×4 cm
A 4th-century glass bottle shaped like a fish, discovered in Amman. The fish symbol, an early Christian icon, represents ‘Ichthys’ (Greek for ‘fish’), an acronym for ‘Iesous Christos, Theou Yios, Soter,’ meaning ‘Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.’ This design reflects the use of symbols for Christian identity during the Roman Empire
