Mosaic Panel (Peace)

Z05-009-12005

6th Century (526 AD) – 325×325 cm

This mosaic decorated the floor of St. George’s Church in Mukhayyat. It depicts the images of two gazelles and a pair of doves, opposite a palm tree. The name of the benefactor, Saoula, is written in Greek, and it may be repeated on the opposite side in Palestinian Aramaic Christian dialect, potentially reading as “Peace” in Arabic script.
